Training programme for young church/ecumenical leaders On Peace Making, Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation Skills read more

SACYN came into being following the 1st South Asian Christian Youth Conference in May 2002 in Colombo and was further strengthened by the second conference in June 2005 in Bangalore.  Both conferences had around 200 participants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.

Key youth leaders from the conference have met regularly since then along with other leaders from partner churches to carry forward initiatives, link up and plan for the future.  Some of the key events besides the two major conferences of 2002 and 2005 have been:
Annual meetings of the Core Group (Colombo in May 2003, Mumbai in May 2004, Kathmandu in February 2005 and Colombo in March 2006).
A prayer for peace rally at the Wagah Border by both Indian and Pakistani Youth.
Various conflict resolution workshops and seminars conducted by or for youth of partner churches. Individual and local stories of peace making initiatives.
The spontaneous emergence and growth of the South Asian Christian youth network stimulating a wealth of informal communication across national borders and differences of church affiliation including a network for prayer.
Revitalisation of youth movement and structures within partner churches, for example the formation of Church of Pakistan National Youth Forum was directly stimulated by the first conference.
Two small follow-up conferences have also been held in Pakistan – Karachi in 2003 and Hyderabad in 2005.
The publishing of the books “Called for Peace” based on material from the 2002 conference and “Gospel and Globalisation” based on the 2005 conference. Both are sources for a wealth of resources for youth from South Asia and around the world.
The ecumenical appointment of a South Asian Youth Coordinator.
Regular production of the South Asia Christian Youth Newsletter since 2004.
Youth sections or wings of partner churches have undertaken a wide range of initiatives stimulated by the South Asia Youth Conferences.
The formation of networked mission cells or small groups is beginning.
This South Asian Christian Youth Website has been launched in July 2006 as a means to build the network and facilitate working together in mission and advocacy.
